Trailer for biopic of the controversial director

Willem Dafoe stars in his latest role as Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini; charting the end of the filmmaker’s life prior to his savage murder. This biopic drama co-stars Maria de Medeiros (Pulp Fiction, 1994), Riccardo Scamarcio (Loose Cannons, 2010) and is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Abel Ferrara (The Driller Killer, 1979 and Bad Lieutenant, 1992).

Watch the first trailer here:

Pasolini was one of the most prolific filmmakers of the 20th Century and shocked audiences and critics alike with his explicit films that projected the proletariat. He often cast non-professional actors to perpetuate a sense of ‘Neorealism’ and emphasise ‘The Golden Age of Italian Cinema’. He is remembered for such art films as The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964) and Salò (1975), based on the 120 Days of Sodom by Marquis de Sade.

Ferrara’s drama Welcome to New York, starring Gerard Depardieu and Jacqueline Bisset, inspired by the Strauss-Kahn allegations was also released last month and premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. However, Pasolini is in the list of contenders to compete for the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice International Film Festival, against Birdman and The Postman’s White Nights.

Pasolini has not been given a cinema release date as yet
